REDHOUSE YACHT CLUB g
2009/10 Opening of Season

Hello all,

This Is The Weekend we have all been waiting for since May and the RYC winter break!

The much anticipated RYC Opening Of The 2009/10 Season Regatta happens this weekend with two days of exciting sailing and festivities marking the 105th sailing season of our Club and a great family weekend out for all.

The program for this weekend is as follows:-

  • Saturday 05 September - Races 1 & 2 - Start time is 14h00
  • Saturday 05 September - Happy Hour - 17h00 till 18h00
  • Saturday 05 September - Cocktail Party - 17h30 for 18h00
  • Sunday 06 September - Races 2 & 3 - Start time is 14h00

All sailing members are asked to please ensure that they and their boats are ready to sail before the 14h00 start on both Saturday and Sunday. The club gates will be open from early each morning for easy access.

With moderate SW winds and warm weather forecast for both Saturday and Sunday racing will be good for all sailors and fleets.

The Happy Hour & Cocktail Party on Saturday night starts from 17h00 with the Commodore's Happy Hour (ie: the Commodore smiles for a whole hour while you buy drinks) followed by the cocktail party at 18h00.

Entertainment for the juniors with loud music and real disco lights compliments of RS Sailing will be on the upper deck in the junior club room from 18h30.

Each Family is asked to please bring at least one plate of snacks (and no - a packet of crisps does count!) to the cocktail party that all will enjoy. A full cash bar will be available throughout the weekend.

New Members who have joined the RYC during the past month are Graham Liebenberg, who joins Max and the growing Hobie fleet, as well as Bradley Dodds, Rory Martindale, Jason Davidson, Ruan Offerman, Philip Offerman, Ross Shile, Brandon Haschick and David Taylor from Kingswood College who are boosting the Gypsy fleet by a further four boats.

A warm and traditional Redhouse welcome is extended to you all and we look forward to you joining us on the water and at Club events.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Regatta is once again in Mossel Bay and being hosted by MBYC.

The regatta is over three days starting Friday 25 September and includes the official launch of RS Sailing South Africa.

The NOR is posted on the Club noticeboard and anyone intending to enter should please contact me so that assistance with boat transport and accommodation may be arranged where required.

All RYC members are encouraged to participate in this event at a venue that last year proved itself to be both superb and safe.

The Boat Washbay has moved from next to the boatshed to next to the tree in the middle of the lawn. All members are asked to please use the new washbay area and to not wash their boats on the hard. This will hopefully result in a healthy lush green lawn after just a few weeks.

The Galley is also appealing to sailors with wet feet / clothing to please order food and refreshments via the galley window and not from inside the clubhouse. Besides being a nuisance to keep on drying the wet floor tiles around the door / galley table caused by wet feet / sailors pose a hazard. All members are also to please note that other than when unmanned and operated on an honour system that the coke and beer fridge is not self-service.

A BIG Thank You this week go's to everybody who pitched in last weekend to help get the club and boatsheds clean and tidy ahead of the opening of the season. To not risk of leaving somebody out special mention will only be made of Pieter Groenewaldt (who cleaned the slipway single handed) as well as Di Robertson and Esme' who took charge cleaning out the boatsheds. Thank you very much.

I am certain that this weekend is going to be one that will be enjoyed by all, I look forward to sailing with you and to welcoming you and your family at the cocktail party on Saturday night.

Yours in sailing
