REDHOUSE YACHT CLUB Hurricane Series Race 1&2 11h000 Sunday 11th September |
Hello all, The gales appear to have blown over and after an exciting opening of the season this past weekend we are can look forward to first of the Hurricane Series races this coming Sunday. The opening of the 2008/9 sailing season on Saturday saw a fleet of 14 boats braving brisk winds to enjoy a thrilling white knuckle ride and quite a few dramatic capsises in both races before the well supported traditional opening of the season cocktail party. After waiting in anxious anticipation for the wind to subside on Sunday, finishing off the last of the wine left over from the cocktail party and much to the relief of the less experienced like myself who took a battering sailing the day before, the Sunday races were duly declared cancelled. Despite a few noticable absentees the weekend was declared a great success and really enjoyed by all. The official results for the opening of the season races are able to viewed online by clicking here. Congratulations and very well done to the winners! This Sunday heralds the first of the morning races with an 11h00 start on a good high tide for the first two of the four races in the Hurricane Series. The Hurricane Series is a trophy race with cups and prizes for the winners in all sailing classes. Scores from this race also count toward the prestigious Aggregate Trophies awarded at the end of the season. Please note the early start time and ensure you arrive in time to rig and be ready for the start. As is able to seen on the sailing program we have quite a few morning races this season. This change is to allow you time to race, enjoy a few drinks and socialise at the club afterward and still get back home early enough in the afternoon to spend time with your family. Braai facilities will also be available at the club on these race days. The weather forecast for Sunday promises us a glorious day with mild winds that should allow even the less experienced sailors who opted out on Saturday the opportunity to beat the old salts and I look forward to a good fleet of boats on the water - please support this event. The East Cape All Class Provincial Regatta at which Redhouse is being represented by a good sized group of sailors takes place at Mossel Bay from 27 till 29 September. If you wish to enter please let me know a.s.a.p. so that transport for your boat can be arranged if needed. Notice of race and more information is available here. Lastly but certainly not least, a big thank you to all who provided the delicious snacks for the opening of the season cocktail party and a very warm traditional RYC welcome to the Viviers and Loots families who have joined the club as sailing members. Yours in sailing
