This weekend at Redhouse we sail races 1 & 2 of the first Special Trophy series. The weather forecast predicts a nice 14 knot Southeaster that should make for exciting sailing, especially after the total lack of wind last weekend. Races 3 & 4 of the Spring Series that were to be sailed last weekend were postponed due to lack of wind and will now be sailed on Sunday 22 November. Please amend your diaries accordingly. Starting time for the races this Sunday is 14h00 sharp. The RYC 105th Birthday Celebrations arrangements for Saturday 24 October are in full swing and all members and friends can look forward to a blast of a party. The format for the evening, that will be held in the Redhouse Village hall, is a dinner dance (line dancing that even folk with two left feet like me can do) and will incorporate a fun(d)raising auction. The evening begins at 6.30pm for 7.00pm and the ticket price is R80 per adult and R50 per child inclusive of a three course dinner. A full cash bar will be available throughout the evening. Dress is casual and tickets will be issued to members at the Club this weekend and those who manage to sidestep the ticket touts should expect a telephone call from one of our lady members. All members are asked to please support the function that besides celebrating the club's 105th birthday is being held as a fundraiser by the ladies toward renovating facilities at the club. Redhouse Yacht Club is delighted to welcome more new members who were formally accepted during the committee meeting this past Tuesday. A warm and friendly RYC welcome is extended to the Smailes family (Mark, Chanel, Christopher and Steven), Riaan du Toit and Tony Bailes who are joining us on the water. It was also good to welcome back Graham Carlson and the Kingswood College sailors last Sunday who will be providing our Gypsy fleet sailors a good challenge in future races. Sailing School for both junior and senior sailors is from 10h00 this Sunday. A task team to help get all the Club training boats shipshape needs to be organised. If any members area able to assist or have spare boat parts that they are able to donate lying around in their garage please bring them to the Club or contact either myself or Steve Arnold to arrange collection. Likewise the donation of sailing craft suitable for training will be most welcome and enable us to not have to turn potential new members and sailors away. I wish you all a wonderful day of sailing at Redhouse this weekend and especially forward to our new members joining us on the water. Yours in sailing
