REDHOUSE YACHT CLUB Special Trophy - Race 1 & 2 |
Hello all, With just three organised sailing days left before first of this seasons two inter club regattas we have little time left to fine tune and practice before heading down to George Lakes Yacht Club at the beginning of November. Following MBYC joining the Eastern Cape sailing region earlier this year it was decided to hold just two inter club regattas per season on a rotational basis. The first being at GLYC in November and the second at Redhouse during January. This year Redhouse intends participating in force with both sailors and supporters at GLYC and returning home weighted down with trophies so please make a concerted effort to get your boat out of the shed and on the water and practice this Sunday when we have the first two races of the Redhouse Special Trophy Series. The Redhouse Special Trophy Series This Sunday begins with races 1 & 2 and a 2.00pm start. The long term weather forecast predicts a very sunny and hot afternoon with a brisk southwesterly. With the good winds and glorious sunshine predicted it will great to see the whole fleet on the water and sailing this Sunday afternoon. Sailing School - Following the school holiday break sailing school for both junior and senior sailors resumes as normal this Sunday. The boatsheds will be open from 9.00am - please ensure you arrive in time to have your allocated boat rigged as best possible and be ready to sail before formal instruction begins at 10.00am. The Infamous RYC Annual Bingo Bash will be coupled with a special sailing race and supper this year. With great prizes to be won and family participation welcome the Bingo Bash is really great fun that is enjoyed by all.
Bookings are essential for this is popular event that is also one of the key fundraisers for the Club. Please support this event and your Club! The GLYC Inter Club Regatta is the first of the two inter club regattas of the season and is a must attend for all RYC sailors and supporters. To ensure that the S.Cape clubs support the remaining inter club regatta that will be held at Redhouse in January 2009 it is important that our Club is very well represented at this event. Please diarise and pledge your support for this event - even if you will only attend as a supporter and not sail. George Lakes Yacht Club is a superb venue located on a stunningly beautiful fresh water lake with an island in the middle. With easy launch facilities and sheltered conditions all sailors - including our sailing school novices - will really have a great weekend.
Spring Series Trophy Race Results and Updated Club Handicap Scores have been published are able to viewed on the RYC web page (www.ryc.co.za). Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to each of the twenty entrants who took part. The Viking Funeral, Spit Braai & River Championships - Frank Collier is devising a secretive plan for the Viking Funeral that he says will have both young and old more than awestruck. With talk of flaming arrows and high explosive fireworks this once in a lifetime spectacle is certainly not one to be missed. More about this closer to the time but in the interim please keep the 22 & 23 November free. I look forward to all our members sailing this Sunday and for those who were lucky enough to get away this past school holiday welcome back. Yours in sailing
