This Weekend All Redhouse Sailors are invited to sail at the ABYC on both Saturday and Sunday. The ABYC are holding an informal dinghy regatta in place of the Summer Regatta that has been postponed till after the school exams when more junior sailors will be able to participate. Racing will take place within the harbour confines for the less experienced sailors and around the oyster beds to the north of the harbour entrance for the more experienced sailors. The first race is scheduled to start at 2.00pm on Saturday allowing you plenty of time to get your boat down to the harbour and rigged. Please make a concerted effort to support the ABYC event. RYC Sailors not confident enough to sail on open water in Algoa Bay are still able to sail at Redhouse this Sunday morning during and after sailing school. The galley will be open till lunchtime and demand permitting a skeleton bridge crew will be on hand to setup one or two fun races on the outgoing tide from 11.00am. Last Weekend the annual River Championships enjoyed good support with twenty three entries competing for this prestigious trophy. The strong gusting wind on Saturday resulted in the start being repeatedly postponed till, much to the relief of the sailors waiting for the wind to abate, the first day of racing was held over to be combined with the Sunday racing. Although it was raining in town Redhouse enjoyed a nice sunny start to the racing on Sunday that allowed the bridge officers to get in the three full races required for the trophy. Good wind, especially down Box Reach, had Trevor and Frank battling for top position against Andrew Ward who switched to a Laser for the championship. Congratulations go to Trevor Kitson who won two of the three races earning himself the 2009/10 River Championships trophy and title. The full results are posted on the Club web site at www.ryc.co.za. Next Weekend on Sunday we have the rescheduled Spring Series races 3 and 4. This is not reflected on the sailing program so please make a point of diarising it. Start time will be at 14h00 on a good high tide. Sailing School for both junior and seniors is as normal from 9.30am this Sunday. Sailors using club boats during sailing school are reminded to please not forget that it is their responsibility to de-rig and pack the boat they used away before they go home. Advertising Space in the 2010 Inter School Regatta brochure is still available. Please speak to Rhona Clark or Di robertson to book your advertising space as soon as possible. Rates are very reasonable costing just R275 per quarter page and R1,000 for a full page. Last but not least congratulations to the winners of our big raffle that was drawn after the racing on Sunday. Winner of the three night long weekend at Lake Pleasant Living was Colin Senn while David Abrahams and Lynne Johnson respectively won the game / whale watching flight and dinner for two at Shamwari Town House. Our ladies who organised the 105th birthday bash and all who sold raffle tickets must also be congratulated for raising in excess of R12,000 toward renovating the ladies ablutions. Well done! Have great weekend sailing and please do not forget the rescheduled Spring Series 3 & 4 races next weekend Sunday. Yours in sailing
