REDHOUSE YACHT CLUB |
Hello all, This Weekend At Redhouse we have race 1 and 2 of the Autumn Trophy series. This is our third last 11h00 start and Sunday lunch braai for the current sailing season and with just five weekends of organised sailing left before the winter break a good turnout is to be expected. The Autumn Series is a handicap race and with Don Robertson visiting family in Australia and both Frank Collier and Peter Senn incapacitated the less experienced sailors have a better than usual chance of winning this series and trophy. Start time for the racing on Sunday is 11h00 sharp and with a nice 13knot Southeaster and a sunny day forecast good sailing will be enjoyed by all - both on and off the water. The Official East Cape Interschool Sailing Regatta this past weekend was a fantastic success with good support from schools throughout the region. The weather and winds were perfect resulting in some superb sailing being demonstrated by all entries. It was especially pleasing to note how many entrants from last year sailed again this year with many of these young sailors having graduated to the more competitive classes. The recently introduced Novice Team Shield was won outright by Herbert Hurd Primary who also fielded the largest entry out of all the schools. Clarendon Park Primary sailed consistently well throughout the regatta against strong competition from Herbert Hurd, Knysna, Sedgefiled and Milkwood primary schools to win the Junior School Team Trophy. Kingswood College, who fielded a fleet of Gypsy's, wrestled the High School Team Trophy back from Grey High who took it from them in 2005 and have retained it till now. Congratulations also go to the individual class winners especially Philip Straton (Grey High), Thomas Oshabski (Theodor Herzl), Joshua Woolard (Cape Recife High), Eben Vivier and Johan Viviers (D F Malherbe High), Jesse Martin (Herbert Hurd) and Luke Daniel (Sedgefield Primary) who were the clear leaders in their respective sailing classes winning virtually, if not every, race that they sailed. Great sailing and very well done to you all. Overall a superbly organised and well supported regatta enjoyed by everyone. Special thanks to Aunty Rhona for once again mustering her support teams who made certain that nobody went hungry or thirsty as well as to Coca Cola for sponsoring the event. The complete results, determined without any human interference by the Sailwave yacht scoring system as specified in the Notice Of Race, may be viewed by clicking here. Sailing School - There will be a short session sailing school at Redhouse this weekend after which the novice fleet will have an opportunity to join in the races. Melissa's More To Life Than Laundry blog this week writes about their move from PE to Springs. The latest update to melissa's blog is posted at http://www.moretolifethanlaundry.com/?p=124 This weekend is your last chance to get some race practice in ahead of the prestigious RYC Class Championship regatta and I look forward to you joining us on the river this Sunday and at the braai afterwards.
