This Sunday at Redhouse we sail races 1 & 2 of the Autumn series. With a light to moderate Easterly and a scorching hot day forecast for Sunday the racing will be challenging for the more experienced sailors but a pleasure for the less experienced. The racing will start at 11h00 sharp and be followed by a lunchtime bring 'n braai. The Bailey Southwell Trophy and Island Cup Races last weekend both enjoyed very good support, especially from the Laser fleet, and two days of fantastic racing in perfect winds was enjoyed by everyone. Especially exciting were the finishes of both races with just seconds between the first three boats to cross the line. The full results of both races may be viewed at www.ryc.co.za/results/ Congratulations go to Andrew Butler whose skill and perseverance resulted in him winning both the senior trophies, Eben and Johan Vivier who won both the junior fleet trophies and Benno Badenhuizen and his crew who won the Gypsy trophy in the Island Cup. Saturday Sailing School - Subject to favorable winds a full morning of fun sailing for our more confident sailors is planned off Hobie Beach this Saturday. The purpose of this special session is to help our sailors prepare and practice on open water ahead of the W.Cape Provincials. Any sailors wishing to participate must please telephone Juannette on 073 445 9099 as soon as possible. Sunday Sailing School - There will be a short session of sailing school ahead of the racing this Sunday for both junior and seniors. The races this Sunday will form part of the sailing school session and junior sailing school sailors may request permission to use a club boat in this Sunday's races from Coach Steve. Please note that you will be required to race the full junior course and Coach Steve will not grant permission to race club boats to sailors who are not yet proficient enough to safely complete the course. All sailors desiring instruction are ask to please be at the Club by 9h30 and have their boats rigged and ready so Coach Steve and his assistants may start the training 10h00 sharp. The 2010 East Cape Interschool Regatta is to be sailed at RYC on 13 & 14 March. This year we celebrate the 34th Interschool Regatta and by all indications it is going to be one the biggest and best ever! The Notice of Race and entry forms for 2010 E.Cape Interschool Regatta may be downloaded from the club web site at www.ryc.co.za/interschools/ There will be no organised club sailing the weekend on the interschool regatta but all members are asked to please make themselves available for duty one or more mornings / afternoons that weekend. We are still needing volunteers for galley duty, bar duty and admin. If you are able to volunteer (before I volunteer you on your behalf) please let me, Di or Esme' know at the club this weekend. The ABYC Easter Dinghy Regatta is to be sailed from the ABYC on 27 and 28 March. The regatta is during the school holidays when there is no organised sailing at Redhouse and all our sailors, both junior and senior, are asked to please support this event. The Notice of Race will be posted as soon it is made available or in the interim you may telephone Andrew Bosworth on 083 637 8000 for more information. The W.Cape Provincial Regatta is to be sailed from 24 till 27 April in Saldanah Bay. The official junior fleets are RS Tera, Optimist and Dabchick whilst the senior fleets are open to all classes. A contingent of RYC sailors will be participating in the event and any junior requiring use of a club boat to sail at the W.Cape championships must please speak to either myself or Coach Steve as soon as possible. For additional information, the NOR and online entry please visit the SASWC web site at http://www.wcchamps.sailing.org.za The RS Tera Nationals and World Championship Team Selections will be sailed at GLYC during May. The RS Tera and RS Feva World Championships are being sailed in Carnac, France during July. Subject to all places not being filled by current RS Tera and RS Feva owners the class association will consider requests for places in the team from other sailors who do or have sailed the RS sailboats at their club or sailing school subject to all such sailors participating in the team selection event. More information will be made available closer to the time but in the interim any juniors interested in competing for a place in the RS Tera and RS Feva South African World Championship team should please telephone me on 041 5815394 for more information. RYC Club Trophies awarded to members and sailors last year need to please now be returned to Esme' or any of the RYC committee members. That's about all the news for this week and other than reminding you that racing starts at 11h00 on Sunday I wish you a great weekend of sailing at Redhouse and look forward to you and your family joining us at the bring 'n braai after the racing on Sunday. Yours in sailing
