Island Cup Results

Hello all,

This Past Weekend At Redhouse was the first time this season a race had to be cancelled due to excessive wind resulting in the Bailey Southwell Trophy on Saturday being held over for another date when the tides are again favorable for sailing down the far end of the river.

The Island Cup was however sailed on Sunday with fleet of eighteen craft competing for this prestigious trophy.

With an extremely strong incoming tide and very switchy wind this was a difficult and often frustrating race that tested skill and experience to the max but still enjoyed by all.

Hearty congratulations to the winners of each class especially our rookie Laser sailor, Chris Dunderdale, who after just a few weeks sailing on a Laser beat even the most experienced Laser sailors across the finish line to earn the prestigious Island Cup.

Very well done Chris and I hope that your victory has demonstrated to all our members that practice does make perfect.

The complete and final results of The Island Cup are now posted on the Club web site and may viewed by clicking here.

This Weekend there is no organised racing at Redhouse. The club will however be open from 9.00am for anybody wanting to get some practice in ahead of the Interclub Regatta at Knysna over the weekend of 21/22 February.

Please note that the rowing fraternity have a major rowing regatta at Redhouse this Saturday and our sailing members are kindly requested to please not practice sailing and to keep the river clear of yachting activity on Saturday.

The KYC Interclub Regatta at Knysna is on 21 and 22 February. All RYC members are asked to please show the same support the Garden Route clubs showed our interclub last month and make a concerted effort to support the KYC event especially as RYC are the defending champions. For more info on this regatta, accommodation, etc please call Andrew Finn on 082.556.4604

Sailing School - There will be a full session of sailing school on Sunday. There are now also a few more places for new wannabe sailors at our weekly sailing school so if you have any family or friends wanting to learn how to sail please give Andrew Butler a call on 084 564 3128 for more info.

Have a wonderful week and keep on sailing!

Yours in sailing
