What a fantastic weekend we had on the hard, watching the next generation of sailors and crew perform feats of wonder on our humble river in varying degrees of wind and weather, from 25 knot westerly gusts to a 1 knot easterly zephyr and 2 knots of tide. All levels of frustration were experienced by skippers and the odd parent ( Deon being one of the most vocal we have had in a while , as he dutifully performed his shift in the Coke caravan !!! ), which all added to the entertainment of the event.
Sophie performed one of the most elegant swan dive down up-sizes I have ever seen and it was all caught on digital and will become a club classic screen saver I am sure.
The final accolades went to Barend Lombard of DF Malherbe winning the Novice cup and shield, Glenwood House of George winning the Primary Schools shield and Victoria Park High lifting the High School shield for the fist time.
Tarryn Butler from VP won the High School open fleet by just 1.4 points ahead of Justin Harth of Grey, Patrick Butler of VP won the High School Tera fleet followed by Stuart Dunderdale also of VP and Thomas Ochabski of Theodor Hertzl took the overall Laser trophy ahead of kamikaze Chris Dunderdale of VP. Georgou Divaris took the top spot in the open junior fleet with James Hellstrom coming a solid second. All results are on the website.
A very big thank you to COCA-COLA for their sponsorship, my committee for their dedication and to all those unsung heroes on the rescue boats, the bridge, the galley, the caravan and all those that manage the other hundreds of little things that get done to make an event like this a success, But most of all the parents who put in the miles and the time to get their kids out the house and onto the water.
