Newsletter 27-Feb-2014

Hello Everybody
Firstly an update on the Knysna regatta kindly sent to me by various members! Would like to congratulate Steve du Toit and Sarah Arnold on coming first in the senior class yah ( and if you are wondering Steve sailed for Redhouse) good result for a Sonnet beating Fireballs etc and Redhouse came third in the Interclub Senior event.
On a lovely Sunday last week we sailed Autumn series 1 & 2 with a morning start we had a good turnout and great to see some sailors out for the first time this year including Ralph on his Finn that seems to be more riverworthy than his Enterprise, a braai was held after enjoyed by all who stayed.
On to this weekend it is the big long one. The Bailey Southwell on Saturday which is to the bridge and back and Island Cup on Sunday which is also to the bridge with a few bouys included before we are allowed to head for home. The start is 15-00 for both days and they are pursuit races. So please all sailors come and sail these two great races, hopefully the Sunday weather will go else where.
Please make sure you remember the dates 15 & 16 March 2014 which is the Eastern Cape Interschools hosted by Redhouse so please all come and support and help where you can, more hands make light work. Of course we expect to see all our own scholar members and friends they have conned into sailing for their schools. If you haven’t let Michelle know that you might sponsor in the brochure please let her know now as time is running out michelle.martin@southcity.co.za
All for now, see you on the water this weekend.

Successful Interclub/Gypsy Africa’s regatta

Well a very successful Interclub/Gypsy Africa’s regatta was held on 25/26 January we had a entry of 40 boats was good to see some of our members we don’t see often on the water but also sad that some of our other members couldn’t make it. There was wind for all and it would seem everybody enjoyed themselves.
This Sunday we sail Special Trophy 11 races 3 & 4 with a 14-00 start the wind doesn’t look too bad at the moment. The following weekend there is no sailing at the club and some of our sailors are off to try lagoon sailing at Knysna. Good Luck to you all !!! and try and win the Interclub.
This is a second reminder to you all that we will be sailing our long races to the bridge and back etc namely Bailey Southwell and Island Cup on Saturday and Sunday 1 & 2 March please make a note to come down and sail these.
The Interschools regatta is on the 15/16 March so please try to get our school students down to sail this it is a great weekend. If any of you are still interested in advertising in the Interschools brochure please contact Michelle on 041 5038669 ormichelle.martin@southcity.co.za for prices and space available, all for a good cause.
That’s it for now see on Sunday at the river.
